Innogistic customer, Yorkshire Water, to present Bio-Diversity paper at AGI Geo-Communities 2009.

It has been announced that Innogistic’s Customer, Yorkshire Water Services Ltd, is to present a paper at this year’s AGI GeoCommunities Conference, on the use of its corporate GIS to monitor Biodiversity. The paper will focus on the implementation of Yorkshire Water’s “Bio-diversity Action Plan” and the difference that OpenWings, the company’s Innogistic developed corporate GIS, is making to the protection of Bio-Diversity in Yorkshire.

The whole region of Yorkshire, is an area of England famed for its natural beauty and its diversity of habitats. As the regions water utility, Yorkshire Water has responsibilities in the protection of this beautiful environment and the wildlife that calls it home.  The company is itself a major regional landowner with holdings that include many important habitats such as reservoirs and drainage courses. But the company has a responsibility to the region as a whole and is required to monitor and minimize any environmental impact that may come as a result of their operational activities. Yorkshire Water’s Biodiversity Action Plan is the keystone of its environmental policy and is instrumental in ensuring that these operational activities are sensitive to the rich variety of wildlife in the region.

In order to assist with the management and monitoring of the Bio-Diversity Action Plan, specialist bespoke elements have been developed by Innogistic and incorporated into the company’s OpenWings corporate GIS.   The system is used to measure performance against the plan and reports on how Yorkshire Water integrates biodiversity considerations across all its business operations, an important part of the company’s statutory requirements .  But by increasing the visibility of the plan, the system also ensures that environmental considerations are not overlooked or neglected in the company’s day to day activities.

The AGI Geo Community Conference is again to be held at the Holiday Inn, Stratford-upon-Avon, on the 23rd and 24th September 2009. Further information and conference registration details can be found at:
